Tantus Vamp Silicone Dildo

DSC_0171bVamp was my first. My first body-safe silicone dildo by Tantus that is. I’ve had it for over a year, and I must admit that I used to be slightly intimidated by it at first. It was mainly the size but also the fact that I almost didn’t know what to do with a dildo – it felt weird not having a body attached to it!

Before I came across Tantus I had no idea about safe sex toys. The thought of the materials used never even crossed my mind – I just wanted something that would get me off without costing an arm and a leg. And I think a lot of people are the same when they start out, they want something cheap and cheerful, without worrying about what it’s made out of. And why should we worry?! Every sex toy should be non-porous and safe to use on & inside our bodies. Although I don’t think I’ve ever used a jelly dildo, they just look so tacky and trashy that I managed to avoid them altogether – yay, happy vagina. I’m lucky enough that I was simply put off by the sight of them that I wasn’t tempted to buy one. I admit, I used to have a few toys made out of questionable materials (claiming to be silicone and body-safe when in actual fact they stink), and the more I read up on the subject the more I cringe every time I hear people saying jelly dildos look ‘AMAZING!’

So anyway – Tantus. I’m not exactly sure when I first came across the company but it was definitely some time in 2012 whilst browsing the websites of many adult product retailers. The name kept popping up – Tantus here, Tantus there… And the overall appearance of their dildos was just so intriguing. Combine that with 100′s of positive reviews as well as guarantees of material safety, and I knew I had to own one of their products.

I’m not sure what made me choose the Vamp as my first Tantus toy but I think (?) it may have had something to do with the slight sparkle. So I’m not a fan of pinks and reds but I’m still quite girly and I like pretty things, okay.

The Vamp is pale and sleek, firm yet flexible. It has a thick, sturdy base which makes it harness-compatible as well as enabling it to stand freely. It is odourless because it is made from pure silicone – and you can really see and feel the quality. There is some detail to the shaft but nothing too overwhelming, mainly smooth lines and a few minor dents. It’s all about the head here really. The head is pronounced and a little bit wider than the shaft, it really stands out – there’s no way that can’t be noticed. However I found that this makes the initial insertion slightly uncomfortable, the toy really stretched me to begin with. I made the mistake of trying to get this into my vagina with only a small amount of lube during the first use which was a big mistake. Silicone is not a smooth material – compare it to glass which simply glides across the skin, it’s literally the opposite of that. Try to slide it across your skin and you will probably end up with silicone burn. Water-based lubricant is a must with this toy, I honestly cannot highlight this enough. So remember – lube it up!

Looking back on this time last year, I didn’t like Vamp. I didn’t hate it either but there was something missing there. It used to leave me sore after use, the head was so filling it bordered on painful, it never brought me to an orgasm, it seemed so stiff and hard… I honestly think I just wasn’t ready for it. So I left it at the bottom of my toy box. I left it and used my other toys, and regretted the purchase. Until recently.

I got Vamp out again a few weeks ago, and I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve used it in the past 2 weeks. I’m finally at a point where I can appreciate it’s amazingness. I’ve come to the conclusion that I really enjoy slow thrusting with a dildo and using a vibe on my clit at the same time. And this toy is perfect for that. The base enables me to get a good grip on the toy to thrust comfortably and the head actually feels good! It’s still filling, but I see that as a positive now. I actually think the head would be great for g-spot stimulation. I’ve mentioned this before; basically my g-spot seems to be a little shy which means I don’t get to experience these amazing orgasms but combining Vamp with a clitoral vibrator feels amazing. It’s gotten to a point where I can’t use a bullet vibe alone anymore because I need that fullness dildos provide.

I can’t believe I forgot about Vamp for over 6 months, it’s embarrassing really! But I obviously needed the experience of using many other toys to decide that I do in fact love this dildo. I own a few toys larger than the Vamp now – all made by Tantus! – which means I’m not afraid of its size anymore. It remains one of the most firm silicone toys I own but I find making sure I’m aroused and warmed up properly means I don’t find it uncomfortable anymore. I also find that my Tantus dildos seem to need much more lube than any of my other toys to make sure they’re pleasurable rather than painful so I’d advise everyone to make sure you have some on hand when using this toy, because you’re really going to need it. Oh and I should also mention the length – 6.5 inches doesn’t sound like that much but it does feel quite long! I personally can’t take the whole thing due to the head being so filling already.

I feel like the only thing that would improve this toy is a suction cup. I’ve started using this in the shower but it’s not exactly stable – it slides all over the place so that suction cup would be an absolutely amazing addition.

My experience with the Vamp made me come to the following conclusion – first impressions aren’t always accurate! My feelings for this toy could have been described as ‘meh’ during the first few months, but my opinion has completely changed since. Based on my experience, I’d probably say that the Vamp isn’t the best choice of toy for beginners – I’d recommend this to people who have used silicone toys before or at least something with a substantial girth to it before trying the Vamp. And if you hate it – please give it some time! You might find that you grow to like it, just like I did.

I purchased my Tantus Vamp from sextoys.co.uk but you can buy it directly from Tantus here.
